Inc. has a fascinating story that could help blocked writers everywhere. It seems two German researchers discovered being in dimmer lighting promotes “risky, more explorative [sic] behavior, leading to creativity.”
Most of us already knew that, on some level. Other research has shown dimmer lighting to be more relaxing, and we know how important relaxation is to our creative juices. Why else do we gravitate to cozy (more softly-lit) coffeeshops when we need to get out of our writing ruts?
The article concludes with this advice: “If you want to design a creative workspace, consider hitting the dimmer switch and adding plants and windows.” Good advice. I think it may be time for my writing space to get a make-over!
