Tuesday’s Tips: Accept vs. Except

These two words sound so much alike that they frequently get confused.

Accept is a verb meaning “to embrace, receive, or agree to”: I want to be accepted into your club.

Except is preposition meaning “excluding,” and also a conjunction meaning “otherwise then”: She fired everyone except her own boss.
